Michigan Voting Procedure Tutorial Below

Stefanie Sedlar for School Board
This week, I am filing a Write-In Candidate Declaration of Intent for the partial term Ithaca Public Schools Board Member seat ending 12/31/2022. There is currently no one on the ballot; I am not sure if there are any other write-in candidates. I would appreciate any support Gratiot Dems can provide in terms of voter awareness. It is a non-partisan race, but I am a progressive candidate with the support of Run for Something.
A little bit about me, my background, and why I'm running -
I live in North Star Township and teach Special Education English at Mt. Pleasant High School. I have a BA from the University of Michigan, a Master of Arts in Teaching from Marian University in Indianapolis, and a Master of Fine Arts Creative Writing and Environment from Iowa State University. I have been a teacher for twelve years - mostly at the high school level but also undergraduate English, middle school, alternative school, and substitute teaching. I am the Second Vice President of the Mt. Pleasant Education Association as well as PAC Co-Chair. I am a member of the NEA/MEA LGBTQ+ Caucus and the Gratiot County Democratic Party. I am on the Committee to Elect Jonathan Sedlar, my husband, who is currently running for North Star Township Treasurer.
This past summer, I led a team that contacted thousands of Michigan voters to help them vote from home through MEA's Battleground Summer Program. I also coordinated a Screening and Recommendation process for Mt. Pleasant's highly competitive school board race. By getting more involved in my union, I have engaged my colleagues in political action at the workplace. Now I am shifting my focus closer to home and wanting to put my leadership skills to work for the Ithaca community.
Currently, local school boards are making some of the most difficult decisions any politicians must make. The safety of students and educators - and by extension the community - rests in the hands of school board members. I want to bring an educator's perspective to the Ithaca Public Schools Board of Education. Please write me in for the partial term ending 12/31/2022.
Thank you!

Stephany Slaughter for Board of Education
Gratiot Dems,
At last month's meeting I mentioned I was considering running for the open seat for the Board of Education for Alma Public Schools as a write-in candidate. Today I officially filed the paperwork. Please fill in the oval, and write in Stephany Slaughter. I would appreciate help to spread the word.
For those who don't know me, I have worked with education of different levels for many years. As an undergraduate, I studied secondary education and spent two summers working with Special Education summer schools at the elementary level. I held a teaching certificate at the secondary level in Spanish and English in the state of Maryland where I taught first English and Reading at an alternative school (for kids grades 6-8 who had been expelled and could attend this new school to recover the year), and later taught Spanish and French (and for one year, Weight Training) at Eastern Technical High School in Baltimore from 1996-2000. Then I decided to pursue a doctoral degree and move to teaching at the college level. I have been teaching Spanish at Alma College and living in Alma, Michigan since late 2008. I started a bilingual Spanish Story time at the public library soon after my youngest was born and ran it for 8 years. While it has been a while since I have worked in K-12 education, in the past several years I have attended regional and national conferences dedicated to language teaching that have helped me connect to some degree with challenges and opportunities of K-12 teaching. I am the parent of a 4th and a 7th grader who both attend Alma Schools and I am dedicated to questions of equity and inclusion in all of our public schools.
Thank you for your vote!
